Professional Experience1979 - February, 2002 (retired) - Administrative Assistant, Joint Committee on Taxation, United States Congress, 1015 Longworth House Office Building, Washington, DC 20515. As the principal administrator, I managed the daily operations of the Committee and I supervised and coordinated the work of the support staff. I coordinated the schedule of the Chief of Staff and dealt with Members of Congress and their staffs. I dealt with all matters relating to personnel, including interviewing prospective staff members, coordinating office moves, orientation of new staff members, assisting staff with travel and reimbursements, and counseling staff on personnel and administrative issues. I participated in the preparation of the Committee's budget and annual submissions to and testimony before the Subcommittees on Legislative Branch Appropriations. I worked with the Chief of Staff and senior staff in formulating policy on administrative issues and creating a staff Policy Manual. In addition to these administrative tasks, I assisted in the preparation of legislative documents, including Committee reports and prints. Post-graduate study, 1973 Catholic University of America, Graduate School of Library and Information Science, 1976-79 Needlepoint Background I have been stitching seriously since 1998. I have taken classes/workshops with Tony Minieri, Joyce Lukomski, Sue Reed, Caela Conn Tyler, Kimberly Crum, Meredith Barnhill Willett, Ann Caswell, Sue Kerndt, Carole Lake, Ro Pace, Marnie Ritter, Janet Casey, Anna Pearson, Joan Thommason and Jane Zimmerman. I have participated in numerous ANG Workshops by Mail, Correspondence Courses and CyberWorkshops. I wrote the stitch/thread guide for the Caron Collection's Honeycomb painted-canvas in four colorways. I have won numerous awards for my work at the annual Woodlawn Plantation needlework show, and at other needlework shows in the Maryland/Virginia area and at the Callaway Gardens School of Needle Art. Teaching Experience I planned all of the programs and taught most of the projects for the Shenandoah Valley Chapter ANG for 2 1/2 years. I am currently teaching a majority of the monthly projects. I have taught workshops for several ANG Chapters: The Shenandoah Valley, Potomac, Piedmont, Seven Hills, and Northern Virginia. In June 2006, I taught a workshop for a combined ANG/EGA group in Connecticut. I have been invited by the San Bernardino Chapter ANG to teach for them when my schedule permits. I have taught for the Fauquier Chapter of EGA, and in 2009 I taught for the Oatlands, Rose & Thistle and Fauquier, and Midlands Chapters and the Mid-Atlantic Region of EGA. In 2010, I will be teaching for EGA's Tennessee Valley Region; New England Region EGA; Carolinas Region EGA. In 2011, I will be teaching at the Callaway Gardens School of Needle Arts, the South Central Region-EGA Seminar, Carolinas Region-EGA Seminar, the Mid-Eastern Region EGA Retreat, ANG Seminar, and numerous ANG and EGA chapters. I will be teaching at the Callaway Gardens School of Needle Arts in 2012. I have taught a variety of classes at In Stitches Needlework in Alexandria, VA. Several of my designs have been featured in needlepoint now, and I was profiled in the Designers Across America series in the March 2010 issue Needle Arts. Professional Associations American Needlepoint Guild - Life Patron. Chapters: Shenandoah Valley, Northern Virginia, Piedmont, Potomac, Seven Hills, Tucson, and San Bernardino. I was elected as Director for Educational Services on the Board of Directors of the American Needlepoint Guild, and I was the first man to be elected to the ANG Board. In that position, I was responsible for overseeing ANG's distance-learning programs. Embroiderers' Guild of America.
